2020 and 2021 have been challenging years – so when we were offered the chance to support local awards being hosted by Oswestry Life Magazine, we jumped at the chance. Let’s face it any opportunity to celebrate and highlight local achievements must be grabbed!
As the museum is run and supported by a whole host of volunteers Mark Hignett, Museum Curator chose to support ‘The Young Volunteer Award’. The museum believes that volunteering is invaluable – as well as helping others, it has been shown to improve wellbeing and it can also help people to gain valuable new skills and experiences. It is always great to hear about the successes of volunteering programmes and in particular hearing about younger members of the community supporting others.
There were many amazing entries to the awards, it was difficult to choose a final winner in this section!
We are pleased to announce the winner of ‘The Young Volunteer Award’ went to Ethan Lee-Birch – Volunteer Coach at the Oswestry Otters Swimming Club. His kind and patient nature and contagious enthusiasm made his nomination stand out.
His nominees said:
“Ethan is a brilliant coach and all the kids at Oswestry Otters, Swimming Club love him. He is so patient with the children, always has a smile and an ear to lend. His enthusiasm is contagious and think he’d be a worthy winner.”
Congratulations to Ethan, a worthy winner. We look forward to supporting the awards again next year, an excellent endeavour from Oswestry Life Magazine.
